Canceled Amazon Prime But Still Charged?

Learn why you might still be charged after canceling Amazon Prime and how to get a refund.

Overview

Amazon Prime has both monthly and annual plans, which affects refund eligibility. The good news: Amazon is generally more lenient with refunds than other services, especially if you haven't used Prime benefits after canceling.

Common Issues with Amazon Prime

Annual membership renewed recently

If your annual Prime renewed in the past month, you might still get a prorated refund if you haven't used benefits.

Multiple Amazon accounts

Family members might have separate accounts. Check that you're logged into the right account.

Prime Video vs Prime membership

Prime Video is separate from Prime membership. Make sure you canceled the right subscription.

How to Cancel Amazon Prime

  1. 1Go to amazon.com and sign in
  2. 2Hover over "Account & Lists" → Click "Prime Membership"
  3. 3Click "Update, cancel and more"
  4. 4Click "End membership"
  5. 5Follow the prompts (Amazon will try to keep you!)
  6. 6Confirm "End my benefits"
  7. 7Check for confirmation email

Important Notes:

  • You can choose "End membership now" for immediate cancellation with refund, or
  • "End membership on [date]" to keep benefits until the paid period ends
  • Amazon shows exactly how much refund you'll get if you end now

Why Am I Still Being Charged?

Chose to keep benefits until end date

If you selected "End membership on [date]", you won't be refunded, but also won't be charged next cycle.

Separate Prime Video subscription

Prime Video can be subscribed independently. Check if you have both Prime membership and Prime Video.

Multiple Amazon accounts

If you have multiple accounts (personal, business, family), make sure you canceled the right one.
