Canceled Google Play Subscription But Still Charged?

Learn why you're still being charged after canceling a Google Play subscription and how to properly cancel or request a refund.

Overview

Google Play subscriptions work similarly to Apple's system. If you subscribed through the Play Store app on Android, you must cancel through Google Play, not on the service's website. This is a common source of confusion and unexpected charges.

Common Issues with Google Play

Canceled on website instead of Play Store

Canceling on the service's website doesn't affect Play Store subscriptions. You must cancel through the Google Play app or play.google.com.

Subscription renewed before cancellation

If your subscription renewed just before you canceled, that charge is typically non-refundable.

Multiple Google accounts

If you have multiple Google accounts, you might be checking the wrong account's subscriptions.

How to Cancel Google Play Subscriptions

  1. 1Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device
  2. 2Tap your profile icon in the top right
  3. 3Tap "Payments & subscriptions" → "Subscriptions"
  4. 4Select the subscription you want to cancel
  5. 5Tap "Cancel subscription"
  6. 6Follow the on-screen instructions
  7. 7Check your email for confirmation

Important Notes:

  • You can also manage on web: play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions
  • The subscription remains active until the current billing period ends
  • Make sure you're signed into the correct Google account

Why Am I Still Being Charged?

Canceled in wrong place

Play Store subscriptions can only be canceled through Google Play, not on the app or service's website.

Billing cycle already paid

Google Play subscriptions are prepaid. Canceling stops future charges but doesn't refund the current period.

Wrong Google account

If you have multiple Google accounts, make sure you're checking the one that made the purchase.

How to Request a Refund

Success Rate: Low to Medium (20-40% success rate)
  1. 1Go to play.google.com/store/account
  2. 2Find the subscription in your order history
  3. 3Click "Request a refund"
  4. 4Select the reason (accidental purchase, billing issue, etc.)
  5. 5Explain your situation politely
  6. 6Submit and wait for Google's review (usually 24-48 hours)
