Canceled Netflix But Still Being Charged? Here's Why
Understand why you're still being charged after canceling Netflix and what you can do about it.
Overview
Netflix is generally straightforward to cancel, but many users are surprised to see charges after cancellation. This is almost always because the cancellation happened mid-billing cycle, or there was a delay in processing. This guide explains the most common reasons and solutions.
Common Issues with Netflix
Canceled mid-billing cycle
Netflix is prepaid. If you pay on the 15th and cancel on the 20th, you're not refunded for the remaining days.
Multiple accounts
Family members might have separate Netflix accounts. Make sure you canceled the right one.
Reactivation by accident
Logging in after cancellation can sometimes trigger reactivation, especially if payment info is still saved.
How to Cancel Netflix (Properly)
- 1Go to netflix.com and sign in
- 2Click your profile icon (top right) → Account
- 3Under "Membership & Billing", click "Cancel Membership"
- 4Confirm cancellation
- 5You should see "Your membership will end on [date]"
- 6Check your email for confirmation
Important Notes:
- You can reactivate anytime before the end date
- You keep access until the end of your paid period
- Netflix usually sends a reminder email before cancellation takes effect
Why Am I Still Being Charged?
Current month already paid
Netflix charges at the beginning of your billing cycle. Canceling in the middle doesn't trigger a refund.
Cancellation didn't process
If you don't see "Your membership will end on [date]" on your Account page, the cancellation didn't work.
Multiple profiles, one account
Deleting a profile doesn't cancel the account. Only the account owner can cancel.
How to Request a Refund
- 1Go to netflix.com → Account → "Contact Us"
- 2Choose live chat or phone support
- 3Explain your situation politely
- 4Mention if this is your first time with Netflix (better chances)
- 5Ask for a "one-time courtesy refund"
