Canceled Spotify Premium But Still Charged?
Find out why you're still being charged after canceling Spotify Premium and how to resolve it.
Overview
Spotify Premium cancellations are usually smooth, but confusion arises when users don't realize they subscribed through a third party (like Apple or Google), or when they expect an immediate refund for the current billing period.
Common Issues with Spotify
Subscribed through App Store or Google Play
If you signed up through a mobile app, you must cancel through App Store or Google Play, not Spotify.
Billing cycle not over
Spotify Premium is prepaid. You keep Premium until the end of your paid period, then it converts to Free.
Family or Student plan
If you're on a Family plan, only the plan owner can cancel. Student plans require verification.
How to Cancel Spotify Premium
- 1Go to spotify.com/account
- 2Log in if needed
- 3Scroll down to "Your plan"
- 4Click "Change plan" or "Cancel Premium"
- 5Follow the prompts to confirm
- 6Check your email for confirmation
Important Notes:
- If you subscribed through App Store: Cancel in iPhone Settings → Subscriptions
- If you subscribed through Google Play: Cancel in Play Store → Subscriptions
- You keep Premium access until the end of your billing period
Why Am I Still Being Charged?
Subscribed through App Store/Google Play
Third-party subscriptions must be canceled through that platform, not through Spotify.
Current period already paid
Spotify charges for the full month/year upfront. Canceling doesn't refund unused time.
Family plan member
If you're on someone else's Family plan, they need to remove you. You can't cancel individually.
How to Request a Refund
- 1Go to support.spotify.com and search for "refund"
- 2Or visit spotify.com/contact
- 3Select "Subscription and payment"
- 4Choose "I want a refund"
- 5Explain your situation clearly
- 6Mention if this is your first time subscribing (increases chances)
- 7Wait for email response (usually 24-48 hours)
